A jam-packed crowd rolled into the Faenza circuit in Italy to see the MX1 and MX2 FIM Motocross World Championship titles be decided over the weekend, KTM mounted riders Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings did not disappoint.

Cairoli rode his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing entry to a perfect 1-1 sweep in front of his home crowd, clinching the overall win and his sixth FIM world title in dominant fashion.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Christophe Pourcel rode through the pain of a recent shoulder blade fracture, taking a solid 2-2 result for second overall on the day.

Rounding out the podium was Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle, the Belgian rider struggling with a hand injury scored a 3-4 moto score for the final spot on the podium.

Australia’s current Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 champion Josh Coppins lined up in Italy on his Monster Energy Yamaha.

The New Zealand native took home 9-13 moto finishes, landing himself 12th overall in his return to the FIM Motocross World Championship circuit.

In the MX2 division it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Herlings who his maiden FIM world title in Italy, after a hard-fought season with arch-rival Tommy Searle.

While Herlings topped off his title winning weekend with a perfect 1-1 moto sweep, Team Floride Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit’s Searle saw himself in the runner-up position throughout the event.

Herlings’ teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek was third overall at Faenza, using a pair of third place finishes to take home the final podium position.

The FIM Motocross World Championship will have a weekend off before travelling to Teutschenthal, Germany, for the final Grand Prix of the season. Ken Roczen will return from the US to his home round in Teutschenthal racing the MX1 class.
