CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Jed Beaton has detailed the mistake in moto two that ultimately cost him the overall win at Gillman’s third round of the 2024 Penrite ProMX Championship on the weekend.

Beaton, who carried the red plate into the South Australian round, was in the box seat to win moto two, which would’ve granted him the overall victory on count-back had the leaderboard remained the same with race one winner Kyle Webster (Boost Mobile Honda Racing) in second.

However, the Tasmanian suffered a small crash just after halfway through the encounter, allowing Webster to regain the lead. Beaton put on an inspired charge to get himself within striking distance of his title rival, although the factory Honda entry of Webster lifted on the final lap to secure the race and overall victory, along with the championship lead.

“I took a different line,” Beaton revealed to MotoOnline. “It was quite rough into there, and I just went one inside rut further, and the bike just popped back at me on the last one and just folded over the front of the rut.

“It’s unfortunate, but I can’t be too disappointed – I haven’t finished any further back than second this year, so I’m just trying to keep it consistent. Obviously, I want those wins, it’s what I was trying to do today, and I felt like I should have had that one. I fought hard to try and get it again.”

Beaton now sits just one point behind Webster in the national MX1 championship standings as the series heads to Maitland, New South Wales, for round four, which will be staged across two days on 25-26 May.
