Coppins looks forward to softer terrain of South Australia

Kiwi Josh Coppins is confident the Murray Bridge circuit will suit him this weekend.

Kiwi Josh Coppins is confident the Murray Bridge circuit will suit him this weekend.

Pro Open Australian Motocross Championship leader Josh Coppins is hoping his Motocross Grand Prix experience will pay dividends this weekend when the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals enter Murray Bridge in South Australia.

The CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha rider will make his first visit to the South Australian circuit, but he doesn’t see that as a problem coming of two straight round victories at Appin and Raymond Terrace.

“I haven’t been to Murray Bridge before but all the riders tell me it is a great track with a really good surface to ride on,” said the New Zealander former world number two.

“I welcome the change to the softer dirt as it feels like the tracks we have back in New Zealand and a lot of the tracks I raced while in Europe.”

Coppins teammate and defending triple Pro Open champion Jay Marmont is also looking to build on momentum gained with podiums in rounds two and three.

“It’s been a month since our last national race but myself and the team has continued to work hard behind the scenes,” Wollongong resident Marmont said.

“We are still to hit the halfway point in the championship and there are so many races and so many points up for grabs that no one can afford to rest on their laurels.”

In the standings Coppins leads, while Marmont is 29 points behind in third.
