SX2 privateer Kaleb Barham has revealed that he will line up as a wildcard at this Saturday’s World Supercross Championship (WSX) round on the Gold Coast, the Queenslander entering the weekend in form after finishing fifth overall at the AUSX Open.

Sitting P7 in the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross SX2 standings, Barham has instead turned his attention to the Australian GP after opting out of the Adelaide Grand Final.

Not aligned with any official team this season, the 27-year-old noted that the added flexibility has allowed him to shape his own program – including the opportunity to contest WSX at his home round on the schedule.

“I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to race WSX as a wildcard this weekend,” Barham told MotoOnline. “It’s something that I have worked very hard for, and I’ve been able to be part of the series for a couple of years now.

“Obviously, it sucks that it clashes with the Australian supercross calendar, but for me, it was a bit of a no-brainer – being a privateer this year, I kept it that way so I could run my own show and do what I wanted to do.

“As soon as I knew WSX was coming to the Gold Coast, it got my attention. I reached out to them, told them that I’m available, and we finalised it just before Melbourne last week, so I’m stoked.”

Barham is no stranger to WSX competition, having lined up in SX2 last year with the Monster Energy CDR Yamaha team. He also featured as a wildcard at the 2023 Australian GP, with this weekend’s appearance set to mark his third year in the series.

Following a solid AUSX campaign to date – combined with 10th in the Penrite ProMX MX2 standings – Barham indicated that nothing is currently locked in for the 2026 Australian season, with his plans still to be determined.

“I want to prove that I am better than what I was last year,” he added. “The goal is to be on a factory team, but at the moment, I am taking things race by race. Where that leaves me for next year, I have no idea – we’ll try to let the results do the talking.”
