A drama-filled AUSX Open saw Alex Larwood emerge as an SX2 title threat with one round remaining in season 2025, the NFAL Honda Racing rider declaring that he has ‘nothing to lose’ at the Adelaide Grand Final this weekend.

The 250 class was thrown into disarray in Melbourne when previous championship leader Lux Turner (Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha) crashed in practice, sustaining a wrist injury that ended his AUSX season altogether.

That opened the door for a new points leader to rise leaving Marvel Stadium, with Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha teammate Ryder Kingsford taking the red plate after finishing P3, while Larwood climbed to second in the standings – 12 points in arrears – after finishing fourth.

“I was pretty bummed with my second race here in Melbourne,” Larwood told MotoOnline. “I feel like I was exercising a bit more patience, riding more calculated, but unfortunately, I came unstuck once again. I’m trying to learn from these small mistakes during my second year [of supercross].

“We’ve got one more round to go next weekend back at home, and I’m looking forward to it – I’ve got nothing to lose, pretty much. There are no ifs or buts about it anymore – I need to go there with nothing to lose and give it my all.

“Ryder and I are friends, but it may get heated or it may not. At the end of the day, we both want to win and then also get that pay check. I’ll do anything it takes, if we’re close and need to rub bars, it’ll be on.”

The SX2 title showdown appears firmly set between Larwood and Kingsford at the finale, with Rhys Budd (Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki) effectively positioned third with Turner’s absence, 44 points outside of the series lead.
