Developing key 250 components for Honda Racing.
Reigning Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross SX2 champion Shane McElrath will contest this Saturday’s AUSX Open at Marvel Stadium, the experienced American continuing to balance both Australian and World Supercross duties.
The 31-year-old contested Redcliffe’s season-opening double-header in October, recording a 6-5 scorecard over the two nights of racing, which included victory in the second final at round one. After missing Sydney’s third stop, he is currently 11th in the standings.
McElrath has since worn the number one in this year’s WSX series in both Argentina and Canada, and is positioned fourth overall with 2-8 results. He will return to the start line of AUSX this weekend, helping Honda Racing develop its CRF250R.
“With Brodie [Connolly] sidelined, we had spare motorcycles available and an opportunity to run the number one plate,” explained Honda Racing team owner Yarrive Konsky to MotoOnline. “It also presented a valuable chance to continue the development of our 250 program. We have new parts for this weekend, and he has been directly involved in the testing.”
McElrath has split his time between 450 and 250 machinery this year, having contested the entire Monster Energy Supercross series – alongside select Pro Motocross rounds and the SMX Playoffs – in the premier division.
He reverted to the 250 for both AUSX and WSX, wearing the number one plate which reflects his championship success last year.
