Nine-time Australian champion Matt Moss is set to make his first AUSX start of 2025 at this weekend’s Boost Mobile AUSX Open, lining up in SX1 as part of the Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki team.

Initially expected to contest the opening two rounds of the series, injuries kept Moss out of both Redcliffe events, while a clash between Cronulla and the first round of the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) ruled him out of his home race.

The 37-year-old has since been on a world tour of sorts, taking victory at the ISRL opener in Pune before finishing ninth in the SX1 class at the opening round of the World Supercross Championship (WSX) in Argentina with Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki.

An incident at the second round of the WSX series sidelined him after re-aggravating an existing hip injury, but he has since confirmed he will line up this weekend in Melbourne.

“The plan right now is to race in Melbourne this weekend,” Moss told MotoOnline. “It’s been a busy month racing in India and the first two WSX rounds, and ideally I’d like more time on the bike – but I’m looking forward to making my first appearance of the season for Empire Kawasaki.

“I reaggravated a hip injury on the weekend in Vancouver. The track was tough and there were hidden rocks under the dirt – I mean proper boulders. I went to step-on, step-off in a section, hit one, and it sent me sideways, which flared up my hip. It was too painful to even hold on, so I made the call to sit it out and heal up to be ready for Melbourne, and then obviously the Gold Coast.”

Moss will line up alongside SX1 teammate Luke Clout and SX2 competitors Cole Thompson and Rhys Budd under the official Kawasaki banner, before heading to WSX’s Australian GP on the Gold Coast next weekend with BUD Racing.
