Missing Sydney round this weekend following opening round mishap.
A hand injury sustained at round one of the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship in Redcliffe has created uncertainty around the remainder of Zac Watson’s season, with the SX1 rider ruled out for Cronulla while continuing to recover.
The Rising Motorsports rider mistimed a rhythm lane during the first final on Saturday night, initially raising concern of a broken scaphoid. Further scans revealed that the damage had been done to his trapezium, which is a neighbouring bone.
The injury adds uncertainty to his AUSX campaign altogether, with the 21-year-old revealing that limited preparation time could keep him on the sidelines for both the Melbourne and Adelaide rounds.
“I came up short on one of the threes in the long rhythm in Redcliffe, and did some damage to my hand,” Watson told MotoOnline. “Initially, we thought it was the scaphoid, but I got some scans done the Monday after, and the scaphoid came back clear – there is just some damage done to the trapezium, which is the bone next to it.
“That’s good news, although unfortunately, I’m likely out for supercross. Marvel and Adelaide, I probably will sit those out given I haven’t had much time on a supercross track, but we will wait and see.”
After a standout ProMX season in the MX1 class, Watson contested both the MXGP rounds in China and Australia, while also making the switch from Triumph to KTM machinery in the lead-up to AUSX.
“My supercross preparation was very limited because of the China and Australian GPs,” he added. “I think I had three days on a supercross track, and then made the switch to the KTM after MXGP as well. I didn’t feel too bad given the lack of time I had, but my timing was still a little bit out.”
Watson has been linked to a full-time transfer into the KTM Racing Team alongside Nathan Crawford for the 2026 season, which is anticipated after he rode a privately-backed Triumph to fifth in the ProMX standings this year.
