A broken scaphoid sustained during the pre-season will draw a premature end to Brodie Connolly’s Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship, with the Honda Racing SX2 rider revealing that he is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old suffered a crash while training in the week leading into the season-opener in Redcliffe, with the New Zealander attempting to ride through the pain during Saturday qualifying.

Experiencing too much discomfort and opting out of the remainder of the weekend altogether, Honda’s national MX2 number one then went for additional scans on Monday, which revealed a broken scaphoid requiring surgery.

“I’m gutted I wasn’t able to line up for rounds one and two of AUSX,” Connolly said. “I tried to ride qualifying on Saturday, but was just in too much pain after a crash the week before while training.

“I got some scans yesterday and it turns out I ended up breaking my scaphoid, so [I’m going for] surgery tomorrow to get it fixed up. It sucks, but it’s all part of it. We’ll get healed up and start preparing for next year.”

The injury is an unfortunate setback for the two-time Australian ProMX MX2 champion, who was also scheduled to contest the entire World Supercross Championship series with Quad Lock Honda in SX2 as he targets a move internationally in 2026.
