JK Racing Yamaha’s Charli Cannon was forced to the sidelines for the second moto at the MXGP of Turkiye with illness following a commendable sixth-place finish in moto one.

Unfortunately, Cannon caught the flu while travelling over to Turkey, meaning that she struggled through the first outing while trying to save enough energy to race the second moto.

“Pretty gutted to say the least,” said Cannon. “Unfortunately I got struck with the flu on the way over. I really struggled on the Saturday with low energy head cold and coughing. I tried to save as much energy as I could finishing sixth in hope to race the second moto the following day, but unfortunately woke up worse on Sunday, making the decision to sit it out.

“Thank you to the people that gave me medication and everything to help to make me feel a little bit better! Thank you to the JK Racing Yamaha for making this year one to remember. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be apart of your team and all the help and support you have given me. I would have liked to finish my WMXGP better but that’s just how it goes sometimes which is hard to swallow… no pun intended.”

With Turkiye playing host to final round of the 2023 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, Cannon finished P9 in the series standings, despite scoring zero points in the opening moto in France, then missing the MXGP of The Netherlands due to defending her MXW title at the final round of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship in Coolum.
