Fifth overall at Gillman’s round four of the 2022 Penrite ProMX Championship for Todd Waters saw him relinquish the MX1 red plate, but the Husqvarna Racing Team rider is hungry to step things up entering the second half of the year.

The Queensland-based rider showed early pace in qualifying and race one, but admittedly couldn’t put the pieces together in South Australia to continue his podium run from previous rounds.

“Starting the day we felt pretty good with everything, P4 in superpole and then in moto one I got off to a bad start and made my way through to behind [Dean] Ferris,” Waters explained. “My speed was good, but I just couldn’t make the passes.

“In the last race, it was the opposite as I got off to a better start in fourth then Gibbsy [Kirk Gibbs] came by and I didn’t charge – it wasn’t moto I had hoped for. Overall, we come away with not the best result, but that makes us hungry to step things up for the next one.”

With the final two rounds of the series taking place in Queensland, round seven at QMP on 14 August and the finale at Coolum on 20-21 August – where the number 47 is proven to be notoriously fast – the FC 450 rider will be looking to keep himself right in championship contention in the upcoming races to capitalise at season end.

Despite a 4-5 scorecard at Gillman, Waters sits just 12 points back from MX1 points leader Aaron Tanti as 2022 ProMX approaches its second half, commencing with round five at Maitland, NSW on 26 June.
