Dunlop racers top the tables at Nowra MX Nationals

Dunlop Tyres press release:

Dunlop-equipped motocross racers scorched to the top of the 2016 MX Nationals podium in both the MX1 and MX2 classes at the tight, technical Nowra circuit, New South Wales, on Sunday.

After clocking the fastest laptime in Super Pole, MX1 title contender and CDR Yamaha pilot Dean Ferris snatched two great starts from his two outings. In the first race he finished second, then capitalised on track position in the final race for victory to steal the day’s overall on countback.

Ferris’s welcome return to the winner’s circle saw him whittle down the points gap between himself and fellow Dunlop-shod racer Kirk Gibbs to just 15 points following six of 10 rounds in the 2016 championship.

KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Gibbs enjoyed another day of consistent racing around the hard-pack Nowra circuit, his 4-3 results saw him finish third overall and feature on the day’s podium for the fifth time in six outings.

Meanwhile, DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s new recruit Jacob Wright also rode consistently to a brace of seventh places on his way to seventh overall.

In the MX2 class KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Caleb Ward continued his scorching form with two dominant race wins. The perfect weekend saw him elevated from third to second in the points chase, just nine markers behind the championship leader.

Behind Ward, DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s previous red plate holder Jed Beaton registered consistent third-place finishes in his two races to finish the day on the second step of the podium.

Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd finished the day fifth overall. After a ninth-place finish in the opening race, Todd racked up the fastest lap of the race on his way to hard-fought second place in the second moto.

In the MXD class Yamalube Yamaha’s Mitch Evans continued to make up ground on championship front-runners with a consistent 2-2 result for second overall. Evans is now third in the eight-round championship. Elsewhere in the MXD class, Evans’ teammate Jordan Hill finished sixth overall and SD3 Husqvarna’s Kaleb Barham placed seventh.

“My congratulations to both Dean and and Kirk in the MX1 class for their podium places,” commented Sabastian Mincone, Dunlop national motorcycle manager. “An overall win to Dean and Kirk’s overall third place was an excellent result for Dunlop.

“Our results in the MX2 class were strong with Caleb Ward showing his strong form with two dominant wins. He now steps up to second overall in the MX2 points, which is an excellent result considering the disastrous round he had at Broadford.”

The seventh round of the 2016 MX Nationals will be held in two weeks time at Conondale, Queensland, on Sunday, 17 July.
