Decotis takes Jimboomba SX2 win with Pirelli

Pirelli Tyres press release:

Pirelli Tyres had the edge once again at round two of the 2015 Supercross Championship, with Penrite Honda’s Jimmy Decotis taking an emphatic SX2 win once again at Jimboomba.

Since arriving in Australia, Decotis has made his presence known, and it was another familiar sight on the weekend in Queensland, when the American import finished on the top step of the podium with the support of Pirelli.

Decotis, not only took the SX2 main event win, but qualified fastest before taking the win in his heat race, and then the main event respectively, and now has a comfortable championship lead as the series begins preparations for round three. His choice for this race was Scorpion MX 32 Front 90/100-21 and 110/90-19 rear.

Luke Clout (Serco Yamaha) also kept in title contention with a strong 4th place overall in the SX2 main for Pirelli Scorpion MX.

Jimmy Decotis: “Winning two in a row has been amazing and I feel we have the advantage with the Pirelli tyres,” he said. “Between Open and Lites we have won three of four finals – it’s fantastic. The weekend was hard as we had slippery and hard pack conditions to contend with, Pirelli are super professional though, and having the R&D guy (Don Nicholas) at the track made all of difference.”

There were also further podium positions for Pirelli in the SX1 class, with NPS Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Monea taking an impressive second place in the main using Scorpion MX Mid-Hard 454 front and Scorpion MX Hard 486 rear, while round one SX1 winner Matt Moss (Team Motul Suzuki) filled the third spot on the podium.

Moss, who’s relationship with Pirelli spans over many years, qualified fastest at Jimboomba with a 47.233 lap time – close to a whole second faster than the second quickest qualifier, as well as snatching up the ‘Dash for Cash’ which saw riders from the SX2 and SX1 classes go head to head over a single lap. Matt chose to run with a 90/100-21 Scorpion MX Mid-Hard front and a 120/80-19 Scorpion MX Hard 486 rear for the Jimboomba track.

Pirelli’s Product Manager Don Nicholas congratulated Decotis, Monea and Moss for their performances on the weekend, and say’s he’s pleased that Pirelli is able to continually provide the point of difference to their supported athletes.

“Each time we race with our riders and teams we learn more,” he said. “Jimboomba was no exception with some exciting racing in each class and challenges to get the best form tyres, riders and machines.

“We value these partnerships and shared passion for the sport of Supercross that perfectly matches Pirelli’s racing DNA, and the fact that we race what we sell, and sell what we race with the Scorpion MX range.”
