Smith Brothers Racing press release:

Smith Brothers Cairns Coconut Resort Honda Racing team will debut their all new outfit at the 40th running of Australia’s legendary desert race, the Finke Desert race.

Australia’s most iconic desert race will be ran over two days and will cover 480-kilometers, with 600 competitors and 15,000 spectators spread along the length of the course.

Jacob Smith and teammate Jake Haddrill will pilot their Honda CRF450R motorcycles throughout the two-day adventure with a goal of winning the 40th anniversary of the Tatts Finke Desert race.

Jake Smith – “I’m really happy with my preparation leading up to the Finke Desert race, the team has worked extremely hard to get Jake and I comfortable at high speeds on our Honda Motorcycles. I believe the end result is really going to come down to me, the pace is hot and heavy this year and I’m really going to have to put it all together on both days to come away with the win. From a team prospective, I’m extremely happy with how far we have come. We strive to create an enjoyable culture for everyone involved and I believe it has really begun to come to life.”

Jake Haddrill – “It’s a massive opportunity to represent Smith Brothers, Cairns Coconut Resort Honda Racing at the Finke Desert race, I made my debut for the team at the Condo 750 and had a blast riding alongside Jacob and the entire team. The season has been an enjoyable one for me so far; I have being training a lot and striving for the best out of myself. Having Todd and Jacob around me brings extra experience and knowledge which I believe, is going to help me move forward and lock away a great result this weekend at the Finke Desert race.”

The 2013 Finke Desert race winner and multi podium finisher Todd Smith will not be competing due to his serious neck injury, which he suffered competing in the Enduro-X championships earlier this year. Todd has played a major role in the teams preparation leading up with the 40th running of the Finke Desert race.

Public scrutineering will take place today between 5:00 – 9:00pm at Blatherskite Park, with Prologue beginning at 12.45pm on Saturday. The 2015 Tatts Finke Desert Race will start at Alice Springs on Sunday at 11:30am and will depart from Finke on Monday at 11:45am.
