Australian Supercross action commenced today at the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, with the Under 19s, Junior Lites and Women’s championship categories contested.

In the second round of the Under 19s it was series leader Jay Wilson (GYTR Yamaha) who claimed his second consecutive victory, ahead of Joel Wightman (Yamaha) and Corey James (Berry Sweet/Lucas Oil Yamaha).

Wilson won the second heat of the night before going on to dominate the first of three 12-lap main events for the weekend, winning by 27.269 seconds.

The opening four laps of the main event were led by heat one winner Jake Emanuelli (Raceline Pirelli Suzuki), however an incident relegated him to a ninth place finish.

The first Junior Lites round of the weekend was won by Brock McLeary (KTM) with 2-1-1 results, from race one winner Wilson Todd (Yamaha) and Jordan Hill (KTM).

Kawasaki’s Meghan Rutledge won two of the three six-lap Women’s races to open the inaugural championship, scoring the overall from American race two winner Jessica Patterson (Yamaha) and Japan’s Sayaka Kaneshiro (Honda).

“It feels great to take the overall at the first ever round of the EVE Australian Supercross Championship,” Rutledge said.

“I won the first and third race but I got a bit tangled in race two. I really wanted to win all three races but it wasn’t to be.”

The second round of racing across the weekend for all three categories will be contested tomorrow alongside the fourth round of the SX-Open and Lites series.
