CDR Yamaha’s Billy Mackenzie is determined to cement his third position in the MX1 category when the Monster Energy MX Nationals conclude this weekend at Coolum.

It’s been a positive season for the Scotsman, who is still mathematically an outside chance for the title, and he again displayed his potential at last weekend’s penultimate round in Toowoomba.

Mackenzie took fifth in race one and seventh in the second moto and combined with the five points gained from winning the GoPro Super Pole he finished in fifth place overall for the round.

Mackenzie currently sits third in the championship, 38 points clear of fourth, and he’s looking to solidify that position come Sunday.

“I felt great in qualifying and Super Pole but I couldn’t put it together in the races,” Mackenzie said. “I’m not sure why that is as I like the Toowoomba track and the club did a great job of preparing it.

“We have one round to go next week and Coolum, so it’s important that I finish the championship the right way and earn a podium position in the series.”

Mackenzie’s lone win of the season came at Hervey Bay’s seventh round last month.

Teammate Lawson Bopping confirmed earlier this week that he will sit out the Coolum round with a case of glandular fever (click here for details).
