Monster Energy MX Nationals series promoter Williams Event Management (WEM) for the first time yesterday introduced online live streaming of racing action during the Toowoomba round of the series at Echo Valley.

A nearby 4G telephone tower enabled WEM to continue its live stream from practice and qualifying throughout the first motos, which could be a sign of things to come for the Australian Motocross Championship.

The stream was played via the series website at www.mxnationals.com.au, broadcasting partner My Sport Live and official series digital media partner MotoOnline.com.au.

“The location of the Telstra tower in Toowoomba enabled us to get fantastic 4G service, so for the first time we were able to broadcast high quality vision that streamed over the internet,” WEM general manager Kevin Williams told MotoOnline.com.au.

“We’ll be doing further testing at Coolum this weekend to see whether we can back it up again, with a view to work with mobile communicators and see if we can do it further in the future.”

WEM has featured live qualifying coverage streaming online throughout the 2013 series, however select rounds have been disrupted by a lack of 3G or 4G reception.

“The response has been very positive,” Williams added. “We didn’t overly promote it as we weren’t sure how well it would work, so it just went out over our social media channels on race day to notify our fans and it certainly was a positive response.”

The 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals season finale will be contested at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast this weekend on 31 August-1 September.
