Motorcycling Australia has officially confirmed the Australian team that will compete in the 2013 FIM Motocross of Nations at Teutschenthal in Germany on 29 September.

Newly-crowned Canadian champion Brett Metcalfe will spearhead the team in MX1, last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix winner Dean Ferris will contest MX2 and MX Nationals contender Todd Waters will enter MX3.

Combined, the trio all have experience at the ‘Olympics’ of Motocross. Metcalfe has been on Team Australia on multiple occasions, and was part of the squad alongside Chad Reed and Matt Moss when they finished on the podium in 2011.

Ferris rode for Team Australia in 2010, while Waters made his first appearance last season in an all-rookie line-up.

The announcement was fast-tracked by MA this afternoon following Chad Reed’s confirmation this morning that he’ll take time out for the remainder of 2013 (click here for more).

Team manager Gary Benn said selection was extremely difficult this year, but believes Australia will be well represented by Metcalfe, Ferris and Waters.

“These guys are in amazing form at the moment and were a natural pick to represent the Aussies on the motocross world stage,” Benn said.

“Of course we’re disappointed Chad withdrew his nomination. He is without a doubt an outstanding rider and Aussie legend, having represented the country at the MXoN many times in previous years.”

Featuring as reserve for Team Australia will be runaway MX2 national series leader Luke Styke.

Current MX1 MX Nationals series leader Moss didn’t apply for a position in 2013, instead opting to focus on the Australian Supercross Championship.

Last year at the MXoN in Belgium, Australia finished 10th in the event won by Germany over Belgium and the United States.
