Australian Motocross Championship leader Matt Moss is taking a no holds barred approach in his quest for the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 title.

The Motul Pirelli Suzuki rider has been engaged in a late-season rivalry with early series leader Todd Waters, which continues to escalate following incidents at both Hervey Bay and Swan Hill.

Following a further clash at Swan Hill on Sunday during moto one, which resulted in a heated discussion following the finish, Moss is adamant that he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to win the championship but would prefer a fair fight.

Moss claimed Super Pole and both moto victories at Swan Hill for a perfect scorecard of 75 points.

“Being in the championship hunt with only two rounds to go, it’s just letting Todd [Waters] know I’m going to go down swinging,” Moss told MotoOnline.com.au.

“We’re both racers and we both want to win. I just feel like he’d done a bit of a dirty move and I’m going to voice my opinion. I’m not just going to sit there and be a pussy and let him think he can do that to me – I let him know if he did it again I’d do it back.

“We’re both champions and I think we can race better than that and having to hit each other, so I don’t care whichever way it goes. If he wants to get dirty I’ll go that way, but I ultimately I just want to get out there and win a championship.”

With three consecutive round wins to open the 2013 season to his credit, Waters led the title chase until the Hervey Bay round, where Moss took control of the red plate.

Following last weekend’s eighth round of 10, Moss carries an 11-point lead into Toowoomba’s penultimate round of racing on Sunday, 25 August.
