South Australian Brett Metcalfe is celebrating his first Canadian Motocross Championship victory this week after clinching the title with a round to spare at Riverglade MX Park.
Metcalfe won Leading Edge Kawasaki’s second consecutive MX1 title with 3-1 results on Sunday, following what has been a consistent season to date including five round wins and a perfect podium run.
Last weekend the priority was to wrap up the title following eight of nine rounds, which he did in style by capturing the overall round win. Click here for our race report.
“I got a really horrible start in the first moto and came through from about 20th up to third,” Metcalfe reflected. “I was happy with that on a track that was extremely hard to pass on.
“In the second moto, obviously my goal today was to wrap the championship up today, and going into the second moto I had a really good lead in the points – really my goal was to win that moto.
“I got a good start, came out second, and got the lead on the first lap. From there I just put my head down and just kind of gauged where the guys were behind me. It was pretty uneventful, really and I just held it on to the end.
“I felt like a long moto, just waiting for it to finish, knowing that I had the championship. It felt good to be in that position and a good experience for me. I enjoyed it – getting the championship is awesome.”
Metcalfe is now scheduled to make his second appearance of 2013 in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship this weekend at Unadilla, before the final round of the Canadian series will be staged at Walton in Ontario on 18 August.
