Yamaha rider Sean Throup outlasted the competition to claim victory at the gruelling South Australia 24 Hour in Eudunda for the second time.

Throup battled the stopwatch, tough terrain and the elements, pushing on as night fell and charging into morning with his Yamaha WR450F still running strong.

He was one of 200 riders entered, only 84 of which made it through to the end.

“It was pretty tough out there,” said Throup. “The rain obviously made it quite muddy and that makes reading the dirt and terrain through the night difficult.

“It was also bloody cold, but all up it was good fun and my bike was perfect thanks to the CDT (City Discount Tyres) Yamaha team.”

Second place went to Tristan Throup, with Rowan Pumpa claiming third.

Three of the top four placegetters were Yamaha-mounted, with Luke Arbon riding to fourth behind the WR450Fs of the winner and third-placed rider.

South Australia Yamaha manager Rob Baumann was pleased to have the brand well represented in the lead group.

“It was a great event for the Yamaha guys and the WR450F,” he said. “The bikes ran well all weekend and there was minimal damage apart from the usual battle scars in an event like this.

“It is a credit to the riders, the WR450F and the CDT Yamaha team to have so many of our guys inside the top five.

“Many of them commented on it being the toughest race in years so it really put everyone involved to the test. I congratulate everyone on a huge effort and hope next year we have the podium full of Yamahas.”
