Australian Dean Ferris has his sights set on a top five finish in the MX2 World Championship after narrowing the gap at Loket in the Czech Republic on Sunday.

Ferris is currently sixth in the standings after posting 11th overall at the Czech GP, however a DNF from current fifth place holder Glenn Coldenhoff enabled Ferris to close to within 18 points of the position.

On his first visit to Loket, Ferris never completely gelled with the track and two mediocre starts from a tough gate position due to a first corner tumble in the heat race on Saturday meant he could do no better than 15th and ninth.

“I made hard work for myself by going down on Saturday in the first turn and getting a shitty gate pick,” he reflected. “Two bad starts then dictated the day and I found the track sketchy and struggled to get hold of it.

“Everyone else was going full-gas so it was tough to come through. I don’t know what else to say – I cannot wait to get to another track!

“Bastogne looks to be a lot more technical, so that will be my forte. Coldenhoff had a DNF so that helps my chances of catching him a bit more in the championship.”

The FIM Motocross World Championship will continue at Bastogne in Belgium on 18 August, with just three rounds remaining in the 2013 season.
