GYTR Yamaha’s Jay Wilson has his sights set on fighting for the Monster Energy MX Nationals MXD class title as he continues his charge up the championship ladder.

The YZ250F-mounted rider’s results have improved progressively since his solid wildcard MX2 showing at Conondale, and he was able to build upon a second overall placing at Appin to achieve the overall victory at Hervey Bay.

Wilson made a good start to the opening MXD moto, holding out Joel Dinsdale in an inter-team battle to take the win. He backed up the performance in the second moto, knowing he only needed a safe ride to second to stand atop the podium.

“I’m pumped to get the win and continue to get myself back in contention,” said Wilson. “I did pretty well here last year and I knew if I could get through the first couple of turns in a good position, that I could do get a great result.”

The weekend effort elevates Wilson to third place, 22 points behind second-placed Jack Simpson, and a total of 50 points off leader Hamish Harwood.

“The win lifts me to third in the points which is good but we still have a lot of racing to do and I need to make up some points, so the plan is to keep going for it right to the last corner of the last race and see how I end up,” he continued.

Wilson’s results in Queensland raise him a rung above Dinsdale on the closely-contested MXD ladder, with the GYTR Yamaha teammates separated by a single point as they prepare for the eighth round of the season at Swan Hill on 11 August.
