A qualifying technicality denied Campbell Mining Suzuki’s Jake Moss of his first Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 victory of the season on Sunday at Hervey Bay, excluded from the all-important GoPro Super Pole session after officials deemed he rode outside of the circuit perimeters.

Moss was in sizzling form during his Super Pole lap and posted the fastest time of the top five qualifiers, however the former national MX2 champion rode outside of the plastic track markers during his single flying lap – an incident later confirmed by GoPro footage recorded.

During the motos Moss went on to finish with a pair of second places, but Super Pole winner Billy Mackenzie won by a single point overall thanks to his five points scored in the controversial qualifying session.

“I came here feeling good, got the fastest time in practice and then in Super Pole I was fastest by two seconds,” Moss explained. “They decided to take it off me because I went outside a banner, which I think is ridiculous – especially on this track.

“The line was going that way, it was still inside the tyres, and it’s just disappointing to lose that way. I beat Billy [Mackenzie] in both motos and I still lost.

“But it’s still a big step in the right direction and the first time I’ve finished both motos strong. I just want to put my Campbell Mining Suzuki back on top.”

Moss’ team protested the decision made by officials, which was later dismissed.

CDR Yamaha’s Lawson Bopping was also a major contender penalised during the moto two, receiving a 10-second penalty for his infringement.
