Motorex KTM’s Todd Waters will enter this weekend’s Monster Energy MX Nationals round at Appin with an open mind following a frustrating mid-season break that saw him suffer a broken collarbone.

Waters underwent surgery under a fortnight ago to repair his collarbone, also sustaining a broken rib in the incident during a local event in Queensland.

Holding down a 35-point lead over a charging Matt Moss ahead of this weekend, Waters is scheduled to receive final clearance from Suzuki RACESAFE on Saturday before returning to the bike on Sunday when practice officially commences.

Waters will again undergo a series of reaction and concentration tests in regards to recent head injuries, but believes his collarbone and rib injury will be okay come Sunday’s pair of 30-minute motos. He has undertaken an intense rehab process in a bid to maximise his recovery in time for round six of 10.

“I went to see the doctor today and he said it’s all good,” Waters told MotoOnline.com.au tonight. “I just have to do one final head test on Saturday on the computer, but everything else is sweet and I should be right to ride.

“My collarbone feels good, all the swelling has gone down and I have good movement. I am looking forward to the weekend, really. I’ve been resting a lot, but the physio has had me doing mobility exercises so I’m ready for the weekend.

“I just want to get out there and focus on my races instead of my injury. Health-wise, I’ve broken collarbone and done a rib, but that’s all plated up and should be back to normal. I’ve had two weeks off and have had a full recovery, so the rest of my body will be great.

“I can’t really say much more until I hope on the bike – I just have to see how I feel and my results will depend on that.”

Waters won the opening three rounds of the MX Nationals upon return to Motorex KTM before a string of injuries have disrupted his mid-season campaign.
