CDR Yamaha’s Billy Mackenzie is gearing up to mount a strong charge during the second half of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals.

The premier MX1 class contender has finished within the top three overall at four of the five rounds to date with one rough round at Wonthaggi where he found himself outside the top 10.

Mackenzie feels that he has now his bike setup dialled in and began to gain some vital momentum during the Broadford and Conondale rounds before the mid-season six-week break.

“I feel like I’m starting to gain some momentum at the last couple of rounds and really getting the bike dialled in to my liking,” said Mackenzie.

“I’m still not sure what happened at Wonthaggi, I just raced badly all day but I have managed to turn it around and at the following two rounds and get myself back in contention.”

Mackenzie is aware that the GoPro Super Pole has played an important role in overall rounds win this season and admits he needs to continue improving his Super Pole performances.

“The Superpole has been interesting as it has worked for me and against me this year,” he explained. “Its five points and it has been important to round wins so it’s something I need to continue to work on.”

Following a recent trip to Europe where he contested a GP event and visited family and friends, the Scotsman is feeling refreshed and ready to make a strong charge for the MX1 title.

“I’m really looking forward to the last five rounds,” he added. “The break gave me a chance to get back to the UK, visit my family and friends and race a GP again so I feel really fresh and look forward to challenging for this years’ MX Nationals championship.”

Mackenzie currently sits third overall in the championship chase, 43 points behind series leader Todd Waters with five rounds remaining on the schedule.
