International Entertainment Group (IEG) director Yarrive Konsky has explained the regional direction and future vision for the upcoming Australian Supercross Championship.

The recently released six-round 2013 schedule will kick off in Darwin on 14 September before making its way to Mount Gambier, Phillip Island and Toowoomba for the season finale.

Konksy explains that compared to venues close to city CBD’s, these regional locations and more accessible and affordable for the promoter.

“Logistically, regional venues are more accessible and we can make them more affordable,” Konsky told MotoOnline.com.au. “Venues are very hard to come by in the CBD and require a lot of infrastructure to keep the grounds safe, which make it not viable to run.

“Mt. Gambier we felt was the best opportunity for us to find a happy medium between the outskirts of Victoria and South Australia.

“Toowoomba also provides us an opportunity to run an event that we beleive was successful last year, considering it rained we still had in excess of 6000 people attending.

“It’s important to create continuity and consistency, people know what they’re going to get there and we believe continuity and consistency are key to making it work.”

New South Wales will not hold a Supercross round for 2013 partly due to premium running costs. South Australian riders and residents will benefit with the addition of the Mt. Gambier round in it’s place.

“We’re not going to New South Wales this year, the costs to run Newcastle last year were quite high. We want to make the championship sustainable, which it hasn’t been in the past.

“We had a number of rounds that we wanted to run and we are 100 percent that it will go back to New South Wales next year. However South Australia has missed out on a round since 2009, so it was time to go back.”
