The 2013 Tatts Finke Desert Race circuit proved to be even more challenging this year.

Glenn Hoffmann Racing’s (GHR) Todd Smith clinched the 2013 Tatts Finke Desert Race overall win in the Northern Territory this past weekend ahead of a stacked field of talented riders.

Smith was followed closely by his brother Jacob Smith throughout the event, with Jacob eventually taking home the runner-up spot to join his brother on the podium.

Strong from the outset, the Smith brothers, lead by Jacob, took the top two spots in the prologue and then went onto enjoy a family duel for much of the two-day race before Todd took the victory from his brother by just under four minutes.

Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Racing Team’s Josh Green rode to an impressive third place finish on debut in this year’s gruelling event, held Sunday and Monday.

Green, 22, finished the 456-kilometer race from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) community and back just under two-minutes behind the second place Smith brother, Jacob.

Green was the first Yamaha rider to make his way onto the podium since 2005 and he is glad to see some blue on the box after years of KTM domination.

“KTM have dominated Finke for a long time,” said Green. ” I certainly didn’t expect to come out and finish ahead of guys like Ben Grabham or land on the podium, especially considering this is my first Finke and the first time I’ve even attended one of them.

“My YZ450F really was the best bike for the job and the support I have received from Yamaha and my team has been incredible. I couldn’t have achieved any of this without them.”

Jarrod Bewley rode his Husaberg FE501 to fourth place overall in the event, finishing just under three-minutes behind third place holder Green.

Bewley was followed by Ivan Long, Jack Dooley-Mcdonnell, Caleb Auricht, Matt Fish, Lachlan Summers and Lachlan Marr who took fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th places respectively.

Despite putting in a strong effort in preparation for and during the event, HSE Motorex KTM team’s bid for a fifth-straight win in the Tatts Finke Desert Race did not come off this time round.

Matt Fish and Ben Grabham gave it their all for the team, but found themselves unable to combine all the elements required to feature in Australia’s fastest dirt bike race, finishing eighth and 11th respectively.
