It’s all smiles for Cody Cooper following his maiden 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals overall MX1 win at Conondale’s round five in Queensland.

After battling setup and putting together mixed results throughout the first four rounds, the Motul Pirelli Suzuki rider put together a strong day using a GoPro Super Pole win to get the ball rolling.

Finding himself buried in the pack during moto one, sans goggles, the Kiwi pushed forth in the sloppy conditions to take a sixth place before regrouping and stealing away the moto win.

“The day ended up good and to win my first Super Pole was a great feeling – it helped me win the day,” said Cooper.

“In the first moto I threw my goggles off early, but I was happy with how I rode through the pack and we scored decent points. “I got the holeshot in the last one, got a good lead even though I started tightening up toward the end.”

Cooper makes it no secret that he is itching to escape the rigours of testing and return to his regular training routine in New Zealand.

“I have been doing a lot of testing, so it’s important I go back to New Zealand and start doing motos again during my training,” he added. “I am really happy though and I have to say thanks to the team for helping me win this one.”

Cooper currently holds fourth overall in the MX1 series standings, 64 points behind series leader Todd Waters with five rounds remaining.
