Runaway MX2 Australian Motocross Championship leader Luke Styke will remain focused on his program during the current six-week break in the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

After a dominant start to his season resulting in four overall wins from five rounds, Styke takes a 51-point lead into the break over Serco Yamaha teammate Luke Clout.

Styke enters the layoff following victory on Sunday at Conondale, but admits that he will need to continue building momentum as the likes of Clout and Honda’s Josh Cachia continue to pile on the pressure.

“I wasn’t happy after that first moto [at Conondale],” said Styke. “I made some mistakes, missed some lines and didn’t flow my turns so moto two was all about fixing those things and getting the job done.

“I have won four out of the five rounds so far but things can change quickly in Motocross. If I don’t keep bring my A game, then I will get beaten and I don’t want that to happen.”

The New South Wales resident hopes to replicate his recent performances during the second-half of the series as he searches for that elusive MX2 title that he came so close to clinching in 2012.

“The first half of the series has gone really well for myself and Serco Yamaha and we need to start round six exactly as we started round one,” he added.

Styke is scheduled to take a trip to Europe during the mid-season break, however no on-track appearances will be made by the current MX2 series leader according to the Serco Yamaha team.
