Australia’s Brett Metcalfe has claimed second overall on debut in the 2013 Canadian Monster Energy Motocross Nationals at The Wasteland in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Metcalfe made the late decision to join Team Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki earlier this year, the same team that took AMA Supercross and Motocross contender Matt Georke to a Canadian championship in 2012.

After months of preparation in Southern California, Metcalfe made his way to the Nanaimo circuit and put together a strong 2-2 scorecard to earn himself the runner-up spot in the MX1 class.

Metcalfe finished second behind KTM-mounted Canadian Colton Facciotti who swept the event with 1-1 finishes, Jeremy Medaglia finished third behind the Aussie with 6-3 moto finishes.

AMA Supercross and Motocross regular Bobby Kiniry used a 3-6 moto scorecard to take fourth aboard his Yamaha with Tyler Medaglia rounding out the top five on his KTM.

The 2013 Canadian Monster Energy Motocross Nationals will now head to the Whispering Pines Raceway in Kamloops, British Columbia for round two of the nine-round series.
