Queensland-based Serco Yamaha continues to be the class of the MX2 field in the Monster Energy MX Nationals, picking up a fourth straight overall win from four rounds on Sunday at Broadford to open the 2013 season.

Runaway series leader Luke Styke added Broadford to his Raymond Terrace and Wonthaggi wins for his third overall of the year, while Murray Bridge winner and rookie standout Luke Clout raced to third on the challenging Victorian circuit.

Broadford made it three consecutive rounds of the series that the team has landed both Styke and Clout on the MX2 podium overall.

Styke continued his winning ways at Broadford on Sunday with a 2-1 results haul, disappointed to stall his YZ250F after leading early in the opening moto.

“I was so angry after moto one,” Styke said. “Professional racers don’t stall bikes and I was so angry at myself for making such a stupid mistake.

“So, I gave myself no option but to win moto two and with the help of the Serco Yamaha team and Rab, my mechanic, we got it done and gained a few more points lead in the championship chase.”

Clout struggled with a damaged front wheel after an early incident in moto one to score sixth, however third in the second moto boosted him to the final position on the podium for the round.

“All things considered, today was pretty good,” Clout commented. “Nothing could be done about the front wheel issue in race one and I just had to keep circulating as fast as I could without causing any more damage.

“Race two was pretty uneventful as I wasn’t able to get onto the two guys ahead of me and just rode around in third.”

The pair now comfortably sit 1-2 in the championship following four of 10 rounds.
