Multiple Australian and Queensland junior champion Joel Dinsdale has set himself a series of realistic goals as he prepares to enter the Pirelli MXD ranks at Raymond Terrace this weekend.

The Mackay-based teenager tasted plenty of success in his formative years, but knows the step up to senior competition as part of the Monster Energy MX Nationals will be a significant one.

He will partner Jay Wilson at the GYTR Yamaha squad and is pleased to be able to build on solid foundations with the brand and bike.

“I have seen too many riders come out of juniors and think they will just kill it in Under 19s,” said Dinsdale.

“While I would love to win races and the championship, my initial goals are to just get good starts and rack up consistent top five finishes and improve as the year goes on.

“The step up in professionalism from juniors is noticeable already as I have had to more testing with my bike, photo shoots and media work as well as ramp up my training for national level racing.

“Being a professional racer is what I want to be and I can’t wait to start racing.”

A capacity MXD field will contest two 20-minute motos as part of the opening round this Sunday. The championship will be determined over eight rounds, concluding in Coolum on the weekend of 31 August-1 September.
