After missing out on the Monster Energy MX Nationals MX2 title by just two points last season, Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke plans to apply a simplified approach to his 2013 campaign as round one of the series looms near.

With the departure of reigning champion Ford Dale who moves up to the MX1 class this season, Styke heads into the Raymond Terrace season opener as a hot title favourite amongst the stacked MX2 field.

Styke’s goal is to be a stronger and faster racer this season as he aims to redeem himself after coming so close to taking home that coveted number one plate in 2012.

“Last year was full of highs and lows,” said Styke. “It was my best year yet as far as winning races and rounds go but in the end we weren’t able to get the job done.

“It’s not something I have dwelled on and my goal is simply to be a better, fitter and faster racer than I was last year.”

Styke is more than happy with his Serco Yamaha ride for the upcoming season, and feels that the diverse selection of tracks will suit him well this year.

“The Serco team has got the race bikes singing and I like the good cross section of tracks we go to this year for the MX Nationals,” he added. “Round one is less than a week away and it’s time to get to work.”

Styke will kick off his 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals campaign this weekend at Raymond Terrace alongside Serco Yamaha teammate Luke Clout who will make his professional debut outdoors.
