The 2013 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships are set to kick off at Newborough as the series revs into life on the weekend of 23-24 March.

With over 300 professional and amateur racers expected to compete, the Blue Rock Motorcycle Club, located on picturesque Coach Road, has been busily preparing for their arrival since December according to club president Gavin Dunn.

“The club’s volunteers have put a lot of tireless work in over Christmas with maintenance work as well as track preparation,” said Dunn.

This year’s competition will see the introduction a new professional class for the Open and Lites grades, which will consist of two 30- minute motos per day.

The championship, which is organised by volunteers of Motorcycling Victoria’s motocross committee, is a four round competition and will visit other Victorian towns such as Swan Hill, Warrnambool and will finish in Outtrim in August.

With over 400 members registered on its books Blue Rock Motorcycle Club is one of the biggest clubs in the state.

“We got a lot of members from Gippsland that ride but a lot come from Melbourne as well,” Dunn added. We’ve got members from Werribee, Geelong, and Torquay. It’s a great range of people and where they come from.

“People like the way the club is run, we try and make it beneficial for our members. They also like our atmosphere and the uniqueness of our track. It’s on the side of a hill and is really technical.”

Riders such as former two-time national champion Cameron Taylor, Kade Mosig, Sam Martin, Lewis Woods, Kyle McKeddie, Jake Emanuelli, Joel Milesevic, Jack Simpson as well as two-time national champion Kristy Gillespie will be looking to get their respective seasons off to a good start when racing begins.

The Blue Rock Motorcycle Club is located on Coach Road, just off Monash Road. Racing starts on Saturday 23 March at 9am and continues on throughout Sunday.
