Australia’s Daniel McCoy has confirmed to MotoOnline.com.au that his assault in the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series has come to a premature end.

The 28-year-old suffered a ligament injury to his left arm around the elbow region during qualifying at Anaheim 3 one week ago, toughing it out through the night show as the swelling set in.

However he’s been off the bike so far this week and a return today at Pala Raceway in California confirmed that the injury is too severe to line-up come Saturday night in San Diego.

“I rode the night out at A3, but hadn’t ridden until today and I’ve been in a lot of pain,” McCoy explained. “We’ve decided to sit out this weekend and focus on what’s coming up in Australia when I go home next week.

“It’s been a really positive trip and I have learnt a lot while I’ve been out here. It’s a shame to finish up a round early, but I’m looking forward to getting home and racing the rest of the year.”

McCoy was always scheduled to campaign the first six rounds before flying home to Australia on Tuesday evening. Click here for an update on his plans in Australia for 2013.
