Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto has left Anaheim’s fifth round of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross series frustrated, following his eighth place 450SX main event performance.

After scoring two consecutive wins heading into Anaheim 3, Villopoto looked to have momentum on his side as the riders descended upon Angel Stadium for the final time this season.

The defending champion started the main event well, but two turns later was caught in a pile up. Then on the lap three, Villopoto again was tangled with another rider and had to work his way through most of the field.

“Tonight was a frustrating result,” said Villopoto. “We felt really good all day and in the main event I got about a fourth place start, but that all went away when a rider came and took us all high in the next berm.”

Villopoto progressively picked off riders to make his way inside the top ten as the chequers flew, salvaging valuable championship points.

“The track was really tough to pass on, but we were able to salvage some good points,” he added.

Villopoto sits fourth overall in the 450SX points standings just 17 points behind series leader Davi Millsaps with 12 rounds of racing remaining. Round six of the series will take place this Saturday inside San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.
