Australia’s Dean Porter has kicked off his pre-season US training trip with a victory in the Pro Open class at the Muscle Milk Transworld MX Race Series, held at Glen Helen Raceway over the weekend.

Porter, who previously contested the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship as a privateer, picked up his 2013 Honda CRF450R just two days before the race which forced him to ride the bike completely stock in showroom trim.

“I was pretty stoked to get the win in the Pro Open, I had only just got my bike two days before and it was totally stock,” said Porter. “I hadn’t even touched the clickers or the sag or anything but it handled great.”

With a two-moto format, Porter put together a 3-1 moto scorecard to land himself the top spot on the Pro open podium.

“It was pretty cool to ride Glen Helen,” he added. “There was two other fast guys there, I’m not sure who they are but they were on it.”

Although Porter is there to gain some valuable riding experience, the Western Australian also made his way out to Anaheim 3 and recently caught up with fellow Aussies Kade Mosig and Dan McCoy out at the local tracks.

“Mat Cox from Race SoCal hooked my mate and I up with some VIP tickets to the Monster Energy pit party, that was pretty cool.” Porter explained. “It has been a great experience already, I’ve only been here a few days, I rode Lake Elsinore as well and caught up with Mosig and McCoy”

Porter will now head to Texas where he will continue training in preparation for the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals series back in Australia, which kicks off on 14 April at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales.
