Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps maintains that he’s not yet thinking about the Monster Energy Supercross title despite leading the first five rounds.

Millsaps stunned with the opening win at Anaheim 1 and has been in superb form since then, picking up his fourth podium of the season at Anaheim 3 last Saturday night.

A heat race win was a solid start for the 24-year-old, before he backed that result up with a determined second in the 20-lap main.

“All in all it was a good smart weekend,” Millsaps reflected. “I didn’t get that great of a start but somehow I came out of the first turn pretty decent, then a bunch of people went down so that helped me out.

“I’m not gonna complain about that! I almost threw it away on lap 18, but I pulled it together. There are a bunch of guys out there that can win any weekend.

“This is Ryan Dungey’s first win so that’s pretty cool for him. I had some good battles, it was a good race, and I’m just pumped to be on the podium. I’m trying to be as consistent as I can.”

Millsaps told American publication Racer X Online that he’s just taking it one step at a time, not getting too caught up in the championship battle at this stage.

“I’m just taking it one race at a time,” he explained. “I go back every week and I work and I work and I work. This was the first weekend that we ran different suspension so it was a little bit different and we have some work to do on it. But it’s definitely in the right direction and I feel like I can move forward with it.

“Being one of the big five, big six, big seven, big eight… we’re all fast. We’re all getting it for the win, and we all can win at any given moment. Big five is overrated, there’s more than five guys out there that can win, period.

“Being up on here, being on the podium, being top five, top 10, whatever, I think that every single one of them are the best in the world for sure.”

The result for Millsaps at A3 doubled his points lead to 14 ahead of consistent Honda contender Trey Canard.
