Australian Motocross Championship title favourite Todd Waters has spoken out about his signing with KTM for the 2013 MX Nationals season, unveiling his 450 SX-F today.

Contacted by MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon, 22-year-old Waters revealed he plans on contesting a number of grands prix next year alongside his domestic duties.

After a stellar 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals season where he finished a close second in the premier class behind Josh Coppins, KTM approached the Queenslander with an attractive offer.

“The deal began after the motocross season, KTM approached me and wanted a 450 rider,” Waters told MotoOnline.com.au. “So I sort of spoke about opportunity with them and what really drew me in was the opportunity to go overseas and race overseas.

“I’m wanting to go to Europe and ride under the factory team over there and do a couple of GPs, so that’s in the plans which will be good, I’m excited.

“We kick-off over in New Zealand, which is going to be Woodville, the first round over there. So I’m excited, I’ve got my bikes and I’m getting a lot of factory support from overseas.”

Waters has a long history with the KTM brand, dating back to his junior days, and says he felt comfortable instantly being back around familiar faces.

“Everyone says ‘I don’t know why you left Suzuki, now you have to start over’, and stuff like that,” he added. “But when I went to pick my bikes up, it’s like I never left. People forget that I rode for those guys since I was 12 years old.

“I walked into the factory and knew everyone there, I can phone up KTM in Perth and I know everyone. So it’s kind of like I’ve never left.”

Waters will be partnered by South Australian Kirk Gibbs for 2013, as he steps up to the premier MX1 category for his rookie campaign with KTM.

An official announcement is expected in the coming weeks from KTM Australia.
