Campbell Mining-backed Jake Moss will enter the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals with his ambition firmly placed upon winning the premier MX1 championship for the first time.

The talented twin is adamant that he needs to win in 2013 if he’s to extend his motocross career, not willing to settle for anything less after a promising 2012 campaign.

Moss stood out as leading privateer in both the outdoors with seventh and fourth in the Australian Supercross series aboard the Campbell Mining/Troy Lee Design/Maxima Honda.

A dominant pair of MXN moto wins at Coonabarabran, plus a number of heat race wins during SX, was the highlight for Moss, however he’s now adamant he needs to win next season.

“I need to win next year, both for myself and my career,” he told MotoOnline this week. “If I don’t win I can’t see myself going much further in motocross.

“I hate coming second and if I’m fit and am getting beaten fair and square, I’m not going to waste other people’s time, money and effort that they’re investing in me.

“This is my first off-season that I’ve put my arse into gear and am already preparing for a championship. I’m pretty hungry right now.”

In the lead-up to supercross, Moss teamed up with Queensland-based racer-turned-trainer Dan Reardon, who formed Alteregoelite upon retirement following the MX Nationals.

Moss stood alongside countrymen Chad Reed and Michael Byrne in an Aussie sweep of the 450 Class podium in moto one at Southwick’s AMA Pro Motocross Championship round in 2009.

His previous career highlight within Australia was the title win as part of Serco Yamaha in the 2007 Pro Lites Australian Motocross Championship.
