CDR Yamaha’s Lawson Bopping will head into the upcoming 2013 season with added motivation after being unable to meet his expectations during the Terex Australian Supercross Championships.

Bopping, a 2011 supercross round winner, had high expectations placed upon him in lead up to the 2012 series, but never quite reached his true potential and saw himself consistently playing catch up to guest teammate Dan McCoy.

Factoring in his limited supercross preparation due to his Team Australia MXoN commitments, Bopping still managed to bring home a solid fifth place overall in the premier class, capping off his season with a fifth place finish after a rough night in Newcastle.

“I bent my fingers back pretty hard in the [heat race] crash and hurt my wrist, as well as my elbows,” Bopping said. “And then because I went to the LCQ, I got one of the outside gates and its hard getting a start that far out.

“I had no idea where I was coming, so I just kept trying to pass whoever was in front of me, so to get to fifth was a bit of a surprise.”

Bopping is content with his results, but believes he can do better and will work towards improving his result in the upcoming season ahead.

“Fifth is okay, but I really think I can do better than that and I’m determined to improve on this result in 2013,” he concluded.

Bopping is expected to continue with the CDR Yamaha team for 2013.
