Victorian teenager Kale Makeham wrapped up the Under 19s category of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships with a thrilling victory at Newcastle’s finale round of the 2012 season on Saturday, 17 November.

The KTM privateer made it back-to-back wins on his KTM 250 SX after picking up victory at Toowoomba a week earlier, edging his way to the championship win by a single point over Honda mounted Hayden Mellross in a relentless performance.

Makeham entered the fourth and final round with a reserved approach, concentrating on holeshots and taking out race wins – this formula proved successful as he clinched his maiden Australian supercross title.

“Coming into the last round I knew there was a chance at the championship, but all I was focused on was winning back-to-back races and letting the rest play out, which paid off,” Makeham said. “The round went perfectly for me, I was able to grab both holeshots and most importantly achieve my goal of winning a championship.

After the sweet taste of success, the 19-year-old is already looking towards the 2013 season, hungrier than ever to achieve more in the coming years.

“There’s no other feeling like it and now I’ve tasted success I’m hungry for more – I can’t wait for 2013 and the years to come,” Makeham added. “I can’t thank KTM Australia enough for their support this year, along with my personal sponsors AJ’s Motorcycles, Tunetech Suspension, FOX, LKI, The Collective. Makeham has not yet confirmed his movements for the upcoming 2013 season, but he has confirmed that he will contest the Lites class in both motocross and supercross for the new year.
