Newcastle’s fourth and final round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships is shaping up to be the biggest standalone event of the season, according to International Entertainment Group managing director Yarrive Konsky.

With Kurri Kurri’s Chad Reed returning to his home region for the first time since 2010, crowds are expected to flock to Newcastle Showgrounds tomorrow as Reed, defending champion Jay Marmont, CDR Yamaha’s Daniel McCoy and more vie for the SX-Open title.

Konksy is predicting around 10,000 spectators will be on hand to witness the title fight play out, largely thanks to the Reed effect as he debuts TwoTwo Motorsports in front of his home crowd.

“Because of the region being so popular for the sport and also obviously having Chad here, we are hoping this weekend will be a successful one to wrap up the season,” Konsky said.

“The mainstream press here has been great and the support has been really positive in the lead-up to Saturday.”

A world class track has once again been constructed for the Newcastle round, key for the sport’s future in Australia as IEG’s series develops the country’s next homegrown talent.

“This weekend’s track is once again very good, just like America,” Konsky explained. “There are many combo rhythm sections and it looks like it will be a longer lap than Toowoomba – we’ve had unlimited dirt for this event so that has helped.”

And while Konsky is satisfied with the series to date, he is already putting initial plans in place for an improved series in 2013.

“The series has met expectations, but there are definitely areas I’d like to work on to ensure the championship is better next year,” he added. “We are always looking to improve.”
