Multiple-time national champion Ryan Marmont continues to apply pressure in the race for the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championship, sitting second for JDR/KTM Factory Racing entering Saturday’s final round of the series at Newcastle Showgrounds.

Marmont, 27, has momentum on his side following a breakthrough win at Toowoomba’s penultimate round one week ago on board his 250 SX-F, determined to repeat tomorrow night in a bid to claim a third career Australian Supercross crown.

With nine points separating him and the series lead ahead of this weekend’s racing, victory and the vital 25 points that go with it would go a long way toward Marmont’s hopes of adding to the titles that he previously picked up in 2006 and 2007.

“I had no pressure at all [at Toowoomba] and I wanted to go out there, try to turn the tables around and reduce the points lead that [series leader Gavin Faith] had on the weekend,” the Wollongong resident said.

“Now it’s putting a bit of pressure onto Gavin, in making that gap only nine points now. Anything can happen in racing and I’m going to approach this weekend the same way I did last week. I’ve got nothing to lose, I’m going to go out there and try to get the best result that I possibly can.”

Tomorrow night’s Newcastle round marks the fourth and final round of the 2012 series on Saturday, 17 November.
