Podium return in supercross satisfying for Townley

Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Ben Townley manoeuvred his way through Toowoomba’s wet conditions to finish second at the penultimate round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships.

The former world champion, whilst falling victim to the treacherous conditions numerous times during the main event, Townley set some of the fastest laps of the race as he set after race leader Chad Reed.

Townley not only took his first supercross podium of the year, but also mad his first trip back to the podium since sustainging a serious injury during the 2012 motocross season.

“I love these conditions, I grew up racing on tracks like this so tonight was great for me,” said Townley. “It was awesome to be back up on the podium.”

“It has been a long time since Conondale and with the focus now on next year’s championships, it is good to know I am heading in the right direction.

“It was crazy out there and I came off a few times. If I had of kept it on two wheels I could of made a really good race of it,” Townley concluded.”

Townley now moves himself into ninth place on the SX Open championship points ladder heading into Newcastle’s season finale this weekend on 17 November.
