Williams Event Management has revealed that it’s seriously considering reverting to a two-moto format for the 2013 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship.
A social networking post this week has sparked major discussion amongst some of the sport’s most respected identities, including multiple American champion Chad Reed, who is in favour for a return of 30-minute motos.
After introducing a number of mixed formats in recent seasons, including a three-moto format (two back-to-back sprint motos and one extended moto) in 2012, WEM general manager Kevin Williams told MotoOnline.com.au that the addition of more support categories could force the series to adopt a two-moto format in 2013.
“I’m a big believer that the format we’ve had worked, but when we surveyed the riders, they didn’t want two-day events and a lot of teams want single-day events,” Williams explained. “However, they do like the idea of having support classes there.
“You can’t have everything, so we have to compromise, and part of that is that you cannot run the three-moto format and have another class [in the one day]. We have a few things that we will announce when the supercross finishes.”
It’s anticipated that the 2013 series schedule will be released on Thursday, 22 November, according to a post on the official MX Nationals Twitter account.
