Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Gavin Faith and his Honda Thor teammate Hayden Mellross have intensified their training in preparation for the penultimate round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships that will be held at Toowoomba Showgrounds tomorrow.

The pair, who are good friends and train together at the Millsaps Training Facility in Georgia, have spent the past fortnight at Mellross’ Young property, riding and training to ensure they are in peak form ahead of this weekend’s event.

Both riders have won the opening two rounds of their respective championships, Faith (Pro Lites) and Mellross (Under 19s) and are looking to maintain their championship leads through this weekend’s event.

Faith said he was looking forward to racing on the 700m purpose built supercross track at Toowoomba Showgrounds, which is a closer replication of the tracks he races on in the USA.

“I have spent the past two weeks at Hayden’s riding and training ahead of this weekend,” Faith said. “This track is going to be very similar to the ones I race on in the USA which will make for some exciting racing.

“There is talk of a bit of rain which isn’t ideal but it is part of racing so we have to deal with it,” Faith added.

Mellross revealed the pair regularly included squash in their training regime, acknowledging the fast paced sport was great for intensity training.

“It’s been fantastic training with Gavin at home for the past fortnight,” Mellross said. “We have been doing a lot of riding and running two-three times a week. We have also been visiting the squash courts, which is great for intensity training.

“The track looks like it will be quite open and will provide a lot more options to make up ground but I am sure if we get rain, it will make things interesting.”

Teammate Ben Townley continues to improve on his return from injury, the former world champion is looking forward to getting more race miles under his belt as he prepares for 2013.

The penultimate round of the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships will be held at Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday, 10 November. Tickets are available for purchase at the gates which will open to the general pubic from 3.00pm.
