Defending four-time Australian champion Jay Marmont is adamant that his switch to the Monster Energy Kawasaki team is going to plan, two rounds into the Monster Energy MX Nationals series.

Marmont sits third in the series after two rounds despite entering the 2012 title chase with a knee injury, taking seventh at Conondale’s opener and fourth at Coonabarabran last Sunday.

Now 30 points in arrears of early series leader and former teammate Josh Coppins with eight rounds remaining, Marmont is looking to hit his stride earlier than in previous years.

“I know once I get the confidence in my body and also with the bike, I know that I can try and go out there and be unstoppable,” Marmont told MotoOnline.com.au this week.

“At the moment there is still a lot of doubt in my body and my riding, plus I am still not fully up to date with my testing. So once I know that all the boxes are ticked, I’m sure my confidence will build and I’ll be going out there winning races in no time.”

Marmont, 29, also spoke about the three-race formats that have been introduced into the MX Nationals this season, happy with them at this stage of the season.

“Once they do get a little bit of consistency, I think they will work – especially when we go to some short tracks,” he explained.

“The 15-minute races are tough though, because you get a bad start and it’s definitely really hard to come through with the depth of great riders we have.

“Same with the 30, the top three guys seem to get away and you get stuck, so it’s really important to get a good start in those motos because there are so many points up for grabs each weekend.”
