Australian motocross veteran Craig Anderson is confident that his Berry Sweet Lucas Oil Yamaha is on point, now focused on fine-tuning his game plan in the lead-up to the Wonthaggi round of Monster Energy MX Nationals.

Anderson won the Over 30s Vets class at Coonabarabran last weekend and also raced to a solid 12th in MX1, certain that his package is a strong one early in the season.

“I used the Vets class as an opportunity to get some more seat time and work on my starts,” he explained. “It worked out well and I also got a good gauge of my fitness by the time the day was done and I had seven motos behind me.

“I was happy with my intensity and my starts. I’m really comfortable on the YZ450F already and there isn’t a lot of work we need to do to my bike from here-on. For myself I’ll keep working on fitness and starts to put myself in right positions.”

Anderson is in the unique position of developing his own team with rising talent, and he’s satisfied with the early efforts of fellow MX1 pilot Loius Calvin and MX2 contender Luke Arbon.

Calvin is still coming to grips with the Yamaha and suffered a DNF during the Goanna Tracks round, forcing him to settle for 22nd overall. Meanwhile, Arbon was 13th overall on the YZ250F.

“We’ll go back to the test track and sort out any issues Louis has,” Anderson added. “Tracks like Conondale and Coonabarabran are totally foreign to a west Aussie like Louis.

“But he’s learning every round and we’re close to giving him a bike set-up that works for him on a wide variety of tracks.

“Luke was great at Coona and although he had a last lap crash in his final moto, the fight he showed to claw back through the field was all heart and really impressive. All three of us will keep on testing and honing our set-ups for round three.

“We’ve made some big steps forward between rounds one and two and with two weeks till Wonthaggi we should roll up to round three showing that this team is improving every round.”

Wonthaggi will take place on 28-29 April near the southern coast of Victoria.
